First Accomplishments and Life Saving

The Alliance began in early 2010 when Los Angeles’ major shelter agencies and rescuers committed to working together with the common goal of collaboration, reducing euthanasia, increasing adoptions, and increasing spay/neuter.

In early 2010 we community organized with local schools, churches and temples to program with their neighboring shelters and rescue organizations. Our goal was for schools and community organizations to get educated about companion animals and help local animals by hosting adoption, spay-neuter events and foster networks. Our purpose was to help schools and faith organization feel like they were adopting their local humane organization, and for the humane organization to feel like they were adopting their local school or faith group. We also created and coordinated high quality humane education programs for middle schoolers that facilitated service learning across a multi disciplinary curriculum.

The end result of these community organizing efforts was that we meaningfully connected faith organizations, their congregants, schools, students and parents to opportunities to help local homeless animal issues, including by their hosting of adoption, fostering and sterilization programs.
